Rhetoric Courses
As an instructor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing at UT Austin, I designed an original course, "The Rhetoric of Food." Find out more about the Rhetoric of Food on our course website, where you can read original food writing from former students. I also currently teach introductory college writing at Old Dominion University.
K-12 Experiences
I've worked as a high school English teacher, after-school program curriculum designer, and youth online discussion facilitator, all in culturally and linguistically diverse contexts.
Literacy Pedagogy
I have taught courses within the UTeach Urban Teachers certification program as well as general courses for secondary certification. Important aspects of all of these courses are teacher candidates’ inquiry into their own literate lives through metacognitive reading and writing and a focus on understanding how power and privilege are embedded in literacy, particularly in school.
